Nowadays, thinking and acting hierarchically are anachronisms which cost a company a lot of money. How many good ideas can still make their way through the “authorities”? How high are the friction losses, how much motivation has been stalled, how much of value has been lost, if ideas are bent in shape and adjusted, by the time they finally arrive at the person making the final decision.

An excess of freedom often obliterates the grasp of discipline and opens the floodgates to a dangerous loss of professionalism.

Noncommittalism, carelessness, ignorance, callousness, volatility and increasingly even irresponsibility are shaping the operating processes more and more, with fatal consequences. There is often talk of businesses and people, of markets and prospects, as if the norms which stand behind them and the underlying values, which shape the actions and decisions, are irrelevant. Often, these norms aren’t even missed and the consequences of actions without norms and values are not even considered.

Liabilities and populist economization – a patent remedy?

The advice to incur debts in order to boost the economy and the idea to reduce debts through economization should be given with the utmost caution. Basically, that is true, but only basically. Also, the consideration to be able to limit both measures through generated growth, has to be seen in a very differentiated manner. Surely, it is the way to prevent a catastrophe. Catastrophe in this case means inflation or deflation.
